Green Brigade

Green Brigade was started in the School in the year 1976.

The Primary objectives of the Green Brigade are:

  1. To maintain and protect our lush green environment
  2. To grow more trees
  3. To Maintain clean surroundings
  4. To protect the environment
  5. To work against pollution
  6. To Develop a healthy frame of mind

 

The weekly programme schedule of the Green Brigade is as follows:

March past practice - 45 Min
Nature activities/Games/Quiz - 30 Min
Cleaning the Campus/ Weeding - 30 Min

They also undertake

Planting of saplings
Imparting a sense of environmental consciousness among people
Conducting an Inter School essay competition on environmental themes
Seminars pertaining to the matters of the environment

 

Scouts

The Scouting movement came to India in 1909. A troop was formed in Bangalore by Captain Baker , a retired Naval officer, and was a combined group of boys from St. Joseph's, Baldwin's , St. Andrew's and Bishop Cotton's. The troop was registered with the Scout Headquarters in England in November 1909 and , according to records, was the first Scout Troop in India, in fact in Asia. In 1910, Bishop Cotton's Own School troop - was formed

In 1940, the Scouts won the Peons' Flag for being the most efficient troop and the Cubs won the Silver Totem Pole for being the most efficient pack. The School band was broadcast from Madras.

Affiliation: The Cottons Nature Club is primarily affiliated to World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India) . Members of the club get a copy of WWF Quarterly, the official national magazine of WWF. Members get the opportunity to view the Wildlife Films screened at Raman Research Institute every month. Members also receive Wildlife Literature through routine mailings

The Cottons Nature has conducted the following ;

Inter-House nature art competitions
Inter-House Quiz competitions

Club Motto : "Being One with nature "
